Worse than the NSM, seriously, is this hate group masquerading as a Christian church, the Westboro Baptist Church. They are nasty, vile haters. They bear no resemblance whatsoever to Christians (not that I’ve seen many who do these days but I have faith that there are a few left out there).

Yes, I’m talking about the nutjobs who get their jollies by terrorizing the families of the deceased by picketing their funerals. Even little Caylee Anthony was not immune. What crime against God did Caylee commit?

They gained notoriety when they picketed the funeral of Matthew Shepard. Apparently, what Matthew’s murderers did to him, his family and friends just was not enough. These people seriously think they are the final nail in the coffin.

They have continued over the years and have a particular affinity for military funerals. Apparently the military is “infested” with homosexuals. That gives me a little giggle because I have some firsthand knowledge of the subject and I’d say “infested” is definitely not the right word. I cannot even fathom how horrible it must be for gays in the military. It’s not exactly a welcoming arena. “Don’t Ask. Don’t Tell” doesn’t eliminate any of the joking or harassment that is rampant in the military. I arrived at one of my early commands just following a “witch hunt,” the fallout wasn’t just ruined careers and the Navy settling a lawsuit, but also a working environment that was tense, suspicious and ultimately did little more than pit men against women.

Now these misguided miscreants are going all the way to England to picket a school play entitled The Laramie Project, a play about Matthew Shepard. A play about hate. A play about tolerance. A play that makes you ask, “Where do we go from here?” and when you ask that question, you ask it with fear, and with hope, because you know that there is better in the spirit of humans.

As the whackadoos travel to Britain to spread their message of hate, I urge you to learn about The Matthew Shepard Foundation’s “Erase Hate” Initiative and the ways in which you can help Erase the Hate.

A father and daughter from a US church which preaches hatred of homosexuals have been banned from entering the UK.

Fred Phelps and his daughter Shirley Phelps-Roper from the Westboro Baptist Church (WBC) A father and daughter from a US church which preaches hatred of homosexuals and had urged protests against a play being put on in Hampshire have been banned from entering the UK.

Queen Mary’s College in Basingstoke is staging The Laramie Project, a play about a man killed for being gay.

Mrs Phelps-Roper told BBC News Online the decision would “bring great wrath upon your heads”.

She warned other members of the church, who are not as well known to the authorities, will be trying to get into the UK to protest.

How much that clearer than that last statement do we need it to be to see that these people are religious terrorists? Way to go UK!
